INFRASTRUCTURE

 Transportation in southern Aroostook County

 Air service:

  • Houlton International Airport serves the area with private and corporate.  Aircraft with one hour's notice are able to clear customs directly at the airport.
  • Northern Maine Regional in Presque Isle with several daily commercial flights to Bangor, Portland and Boston to connecting flights.

 Roads/highways:

  • 1,125 miles of roadway in northern Maine and Interstate 95 provide vital links to markets throughout southern Aroostook. Interstate 95 begins at Houlton.
  • U.S. Route 1, a two-lane undivided highway, serves as the major north to south route for eastern Aroostook Country from Houlton to Fort Kent.

Railroads:

  • The Bangor and Aroostook Railroad Company (BAR) provides dependable transportation for products into Canada and New England.

  • There are five major seaports that serve the southern Aroostook area:

 There are approximately 19 sites zoned for industrial use in southern Aroostook that have water, sewer, 3-phase power services, as well as road access. Sites range from small acre parcels to large, multi-acre tracks.
